This is a direct bolt-on hinge kit that converts the stock doors on a 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala to open vertically, Lambo style. It swaps the factory hinges for a pair of Vertical Doors Inc. hinges that mount to the factory bolt pattern, so the kit lines up with the mounting points already on the car. A gas shock on each side takes the weight of the door and holds it up once it is raised.

Vertical Doors Inc. builds the hinges in the USA from domestic hardened steel, the design is patented, and the conversion is fully reversible if you ever want the car back on its stock hinges. Each kit ships with an instruction manual and VDI offers free tech support, but we recommend having a professional shop handle the install and work from the instructions supplied with the kit.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
