Fitment covers the 1970, 1971, and 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and it fits every trim of those three model years. Part number VDCCHEVYMC7072 is the Vertical Doors, Inc. (VDI) conversion kit built specifically for this body, letting the stock doors swing up vertically instead of out. VDI designs, builds, and patents these kits in the USA, using domestic hardened steel for the hinges.

The hinges bolt straight to the Monte Carlo’s factory bolt pattern, so you are not fabricating new mounting points, and the conversion is fully reversible if you ever want the car back to stock. An instruction manual ships in the box and VDI backs the kit with free tech support. Even so, we recommend having a professional shop handle the install and follow those supplied instructions, so the doors line up and operate the way they should.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
