The 1971-1976 Buick LeSabre hangs some of the longest doors GM ever put on a full-size body, and converting them to open vertically changes the whole stance of the car at a show. This kit from Vertical Doors, Inc. swings the factory doors up instead of out while keeping your original sheet metal and glass in place. Part number VDCBLES7176 covers every LeSabre from 1971 through 1976, and it fits all trim models across those years.

  • Two VDI lambo door hinges, one for each side
  • Two gas shocks to hold the doors in the raised position
  • All the mounting hardware needed for the conversion

The hinges mount to the factory bolt pattern, which keeps the job a bolt-on and leaves the conversion completely reversible if you ever want the doors swinging the stock way again. Each kit is made in the USA from domestic hardened steel and built under a US patent by VDI, who have been building these conversions for over 20 years. An instruction manual ships with the kit and free tech support is available, but we recommend having a professional installer handle the fitting and work from those instructions, since door alignment on a body this long deserves careful hands.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
