Part number VDCPONSWAG7790 comes from Vertical Doors, Inc., the company that has been building lambo door conversions in the USA for more than 20 years. This kit is made specifically for the Pontiac Safari Wagon and fits every trim level from 1977 through 1990. The hinges are formed from domestic hardened steel, the design is patented, and the conversion is fully reversible, so the wagon can go back to its stock doors at any point.

The box arrives with everything the conversion needs:

Two Vertical Doors, Inc. lambo door hinges, one for each side
Two gas shocks to raise and hold the doors
All mounting hardware

Because the hinges mount to the factory bolt pattern, this is a true bolt-on job with no new mounting points to fabricate, and the stock hinges can go back on later. A printed instruction manual ships with the kit and VDI backs it with free tech support, but we recommend having a professional installer do the work using those supplied instructions. VDI can also put you in touch with local, nationwide, and mobile installers if you need a shop.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
