The Pontiac Solstice is a small two-seat roadster with long doors for its size, and in a tight spot they have nowhere to go. This kit from Vertical Doors, Inc. converts them to open vertically instead of swinging out, and it fits every trim of the Solstice across the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 model years. The part number is VDCPONSOL0610.

The hinges are a direct bolt-on and mount to the Solstice’s factory bolt pattern, so there is no cutting or fabrication involved, and the conversion is fully reversible if you ever want the car back to stock. The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
