At its core this is a hinge swap. The kit replaces the factory hinges on your Scion tC with Vertical Doors Inc. vertical-opening hinges, part number VDCSCTC11, made to mount straight onto the factory bolt pattern. Nothing gets cut or welded, and the conversion is fully reversible, so the car can go back to stock doors whenever you want.

Fitment covers the second-generation tC across every trim level from 2011 through 2016. Each kit is made in the USA from domestic hardened steel and built under VDI’s US patent, by the only manufacturer producing vertical lambo door conversions in the country. A step-by-step instruction manual ships in the box and VDI backs it with free tech support. Door alignment takes patience to get right, so we recommend having a professional installer do the fitting using the instructions supplied with the kit.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
