The 2008-2015 Scion xB has one of the most loyal aftermarket followings of any box on the road, and vertical doors are the modification people notice first. This kit from Vertical Doors, Inc. converts both front doors to open upward instead of outward, and it fits every trim of the xB built from 2008 through 2015. The part number is VDCSCXB08. Here is what comes in the box.

The hinges bolt directly to the factory bolt pattern, and the conversion is reversible if you ever want the stock doors back. Every kit is built in the USA from domestic hardened steel and carries a US patent. An instruction manual is supplied with the kit and free tech support is available, but we recommend having a professional installer handle the job and work through those instructions step by step. One thing to know before ordering: truck and SUV kits are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, so double-check your year and model first.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
